Weekly Recap #21: "Open & Closed Doors"

April 1, 2018

Simply put, the past month has been quite a ride. We have been playing with the idea of moving from San Diego to Colorado Springs for a long time & a few years back we took some big steps to attempt a move to Colorado Springs to be closer to my wife's family. Jobs were applied for, we were researching housing & we were praying for doors to be opened & closed to where we were meant to be. Thankfully it was VERY clear with the job opportunities that were available to my wife & I, that we were to stay in San Diego.

Several years later & we're still feeling a draw to move out of San Diego, but this time it's just a little north to a place called Murrieta. This time however all the pieces seem to be falling into place. We put our house up for sale & we received a full price offer within the first week & a half, my wife got a better paying job offer with the same charter school but in that area, & eveything seems to be moving forward. I've held off in writing this post this month or any post for that matter because it's consumed so much of my brain power, & to be honest I don't want to jinx it.

It's a really odd thing to be in your home & start to feel like it's no longer home, but on a positive note I feel my heart being prepared to take this next step. Let's be real though, the place we're moving to is really only about an hour outside of San Diego, so for me as a photographer & film maker, all it really does is expand my market, get me closer to LA, & closer to the Mountains, for me, this move really is starting to seem like the absolute best decision for my family. However, as a father, I want to know that I'm making the right decision. I want to know that my kids will be able to attend good schools, make good friends & be raised by a community of people that will encourage them to be the best versions of themselves. It's my job to do my best to make sure that happens, so a bit of an unecessary pressure lingers in the back of my mind.

Part of the process that has been fun, but also difficult, was preparing our home to take photos. Since I am a photographer I was able to take them myself, but with 3 children under the age of 5 we had to do this in stages. In the end it only took about 3 nights of making sure everything was "picture perfect" but the cool thing is, we now have good pictures of our first home to keep forever.

In the midst of the chaos, I was able to interview 2 more fellow creative dad's, & for the handful of subscribers this blog & YouTube channel has, you're probably aware of this. But for those of you that aren't familiar, here are the links to the videos:

I've really been enjoying doing these interviews because it gives me a great opportunity to share my own heart & values that I have, but getting to use the voice of other dads. The thing about being a parent is most of the stresses, thoughts, joys & hard times that you have, aren't the first time a parent has ever felt that way. There's such a beauty in sharing stories & experiences with one another that reminds you that you're not alone. I'm still continuing to line up more interviews for the next few months & I really look forward to sharing them with you. If any followers of this blog ever have some suggestions of awesome creative dad's that I should connect with, please feel free to share with me at thecreativedad@gmail.com

If all goes well, in the next few months I'll be starting to create a home office in Murrieta, that is even better suited for helping me create even more Creative Dad content. Thanks for reading 🙏🏼
